The Yard's Senior members (Boatswains) are the backbone of The Yard. They make our little world go around. Without them our community would dwindle and die. They are rewarded for their contributions to our society not only by the honor that the senior membership itself implies, but also by getting added exposure and by being allowed more submissions per week than regular members.
A certain maturity regarding photographic skills and appropriate experience of the genre is required to be a senior member. Furthermore you have to be an active member. Not being active as far as The Yard goes very likely means the loss of the Senior status. But there is nothing wrong nor serious about being dormant at times. It is probably even normal for a member to be a Senior member one year, and not to be one the next. As time progresses, at certain stages of life, it might be difficult to maintain a high involvement in the matters of The Yard, only to be followed by a year of invaluable contribution to the group during the next year or so.
A Senior Member:
- Is active in the group (submissions, commenting, voting and so on)
- Is knowledgeable about street photography
- Is polite and respectful to other members
- Is prepared to help lesser experienced people evolve within the limitations of the genre
P.S. dA's system for groups only allows for a total of 99 Admins, and technically Senior Members (a.k.a. Boatswain, Contributors) are admins. We will not remove anyone for the sake of removal, but if and when we want to promote someone and the system disallows it due to max amount of admins, then we will be forced to strip some members of their Senior status.
