Dear Yardies,

For this week feature, the Filmie Team has decided to put some light on streets photos taken with old cameras.

The story of street photography starts in the late 1900’s. By that time, photos of street life and architecture were rather documentary than candid captures or decisive moments. Eugene Agtet then introduced street scenes presenting human characters as the main subjects of his photos.
Since then, our vision of street photography has evolved, and our material has changed. Films went from large formats to smallest ones, from black and white to colors. Our manual cameras have also become automatic as measuring the exposition was possible, to finally enter the digital age.

Still films survive. And analog cameras from older times are currently widely used in street photography.

To give you an overview of the potentiality of old – and most of the time cheap — cameras in street photography, we have selected photos of our members that have taken with cameras produced between the 1950’s and the 1980’s. Enjoy!

We hope we have convinced you that new technologies don’t make the photo. YOU make the photo, whatever the material.

Analog photography has stayed handy as time passed; show us what you can do with it!! Use our previous journal to choose your future camera: the-yard-collective.deviantart… and shoot!

We are waiting for your submissions to make our next feature!
Cheers!

The Filmie Team.

PS: We also want to share a link to a great online photo journal with you all, as one of our fellow Yardies, sandas04 also has a feature in there, check it out: issuu.com/leviseur/docs/2_juni…
